Ultra-Meta Tag-Team (Marvel vs DC)

Superman and Captain Marvel vs Sentry and Hyperion.

Which would win?

That depends. Do you mean Captain Marvel, or Captain Marvel, or maybe Captain Marvel? And if you mean Captain Marvel, which one?

Captain Marvel is trained in crisis management.

There isn’t any significant difference between the various Captains Marvel at DC (Billy, Mary, Freddy, various alternate universe versions of same), aside from which name they use when ‘Captain Marvel’ isn’t available to them for some reason. (Shazam, Mary Marvel, Captain Marvel jr/CM3…)

Ironically, asking ‘which Hyperion’ would actually be a meaningful question, since they vary greatly in personality, which would significantly alter how the fight would go (Emperor Hyperion (a genocidal maniac), or the Squadron Sinister Hyperion (a crook) would be less likely to work well with Sentry, for instance).

Although I think in all cases we can assume it’s the version active in the main universe.

Hyperion and Sentry are essentially copycats of Superman. So it’s basically a fight of Superman vs Superman.

I’d rather see Superman fighting Thor. Captain Marvel can fight Iron Man.

Also on the card:

Batman vs Captain America
Wonder Woman vs Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)
Green Lantern vs Scarlet Witch
Martian Manhunter vs Vision
Zatanna vs Dr Strange
Cyborg vs Spiderman
Green Arrow vs Hawkeye
Aquaman vs Wolverine
Flash vs Hulk
Lobo vs Deadpool
Lex Luthor vs Dr Doom

My money’s on the Tick.

I’m a bit behind the times in comic books, but if Captain Marvel/Shazam is as strong, as fast, and as invulnerable as Superman, how is that a fight?

Batman…barely
Wonder Woman…even closer than before
Scarlet Witch
Martian Manhunter (unless it is the movie Vision with the Mind Gem)
Zatanna (Dr. Strange is more powerful but that costume is just too damn distracting)
Spider-man (he punched out a Herald of Galactus once…)
The bartender at the nearest bar
Wolverine
Hulk (makes me sad to say that, though)
Lobo (but it takes years to finish)
Dr. Doom (better armor and more accustomed to armor fighting)

Shazam now has new powers, yes? Derived from other gods, not the Roman ones?

Shazam/Captain Marvel’s patrons have never been fully Roman…or even all gods - the original list was Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury.

His new list is S’ivaa, H’ronmeer (Martian god), Anapel, Zonuz (Darkseid’s father), Ate, and Mamaragan (the Wizard who gave him his powers). His powers are more or less the same, just with different sources.

Aha. Thanks. But I had gathered Shazam can no longer fly, because the gods which are his power source have no flight capability.

Gather also H’ronmeer is a Martian death god with flame powers? Did that translate into Shazam being able to shoot/spit/fart flame?

Uhhh…DOOM crushes all on that list.

He got the flight back and lost the pyrokenesis for reasons I’m unclear on (big gap in my reading around Darkseid War). Maybe the original set of gods came back and I’m confused.

Ah well. DC Comics. Shooting from the hip since 1987.

Wasn’t Merlin one of the originals?

I’m not really familiar with the Fawcett version, so I can’t say for sure, but the M in the DC versions has always been Mercury (until it was Mamaragan). I’m not sure what Merlin could have provided that Solomon and Zeus weren’t already.

Kamino is right. Never was Merlin. Guess they didn’t want another old wizardy guy mucking up things. And old wizardy guys always muck things up.
