Um, just fucking stop.

I don’t know who that was aimed at, but as far as I am concerned while your pitting is lame, it is also fun and entertaining.

Jim

WHOOSH!!!

Well then, I guess that I shall not have lived in vain

LOL. {Brief enough?}

Um, thanks for the heads up. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sometimes that is done on purpose. It can be done to express sarcasm and annoyance. Umm, mkay, such things. Like when some lamer jumps from thread to thread asking various mutations of the same dumb ass “question” because he has some agenda, or keeps asking for “cite?” when the answer or bacdkup info was already given numerous times. It is a way of telling the person being responded to, that you think he is a dumb bastard or just extremely annoying.

Um, don’t oversell yourself.

I get that, I just don’t agree. I don’t know why anyone would go out of their way to come across as a condescending asshole. I try to go out of my way to avoid being a condescending asshole, albiet not always sucessfully. In my humble opinion and experience, alienating someone coming out of the gate is the quickest way to get your message to fall on deaf ears. If you truly want to communicate to someone, talking to them like they’re stupid isn’t the way to go about it.

YMMV, of course.

Ummm, yeah, we’re gonnna have to ask you if you can ove your desk to the basement, m-kay. Great.

It’s usually a sign of frustration. Try arguing over the same “debate” for (let’s say) 1000 times, always getting the same questions and the same requests for cites and proof from the same people. You get annoyed. You get frustrated. Just before the all-out flaming, threats, and screaming starts, you get the sarcasm. Some people deserve to be treated as stupid, because they are. I am not talking about alienating someone right out of the gate or completely out of the blue, this is about someone who has already alienated you be refusing to discuss, argue, or even flame in good faith (usually on a regular basis). Watch the ones who usually get the most mmmm’s, mkay’s etc. It’s usually the same list of suspects as it was the last time and the time before that.

I agree with the OP. Yes, it adds “personality” to a post. When I see a post that starts with “Um”, I realize the poster has the personality of a condescending asshole.

Every annoying cuntlipped flaming prick MB trait that gets pitted can be argued to demonstate personality. It’s demonstrating a defective personality, usually, and often one of a person who likes to be confrontational online because they’re too much of a pudenda to be that way in person, so they pollute the online world with their impotent angry vaginal runoff.

And yes, it’s your prerogative to look like condescending prickhole if that’s your bent. Just like in the real world. Just don’t expect to not be called on it.

Yeah, what the flaming fuck is up with that? Is there any point whatsoever to that stupid “wait for it” bullshit? Is that some injoke I don’t get?

yikes! such vemon!
and by assigning female characteristics to the target of your ire, you are merely reenforcing the stereotype of the threatened male lashing out

Yes, I find people using “um” extremely threatening. Good call.

Dear Binarydrone:

Please advise as to the suitability of the following words:

Er
Uh
Ah
Eh
Feh
Meh
Wah
Guh
Oy
Pah
Nah
Ha

An expeditious reply would be most welcome, as my ability to post will be compromised until answer received.

Yours,
Miller

I was thinking this was a candidate for Lame OP of the Week, until I read this:

Stupid assholes indeed. I especially hate it when such things are embedded in forwarded e-mail jokes, where I’ve already had to scroll past a sea of carets and e-mail addresses. And then I have to read

>>>>>>>>>>>an
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>intermanably
>>>>>>>>>and yet
>>>>>unamusing
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>setup
>>>>>>>>>>>>>for a punchline
>>>>>>>>>>that’s probably
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>not funny.

And you think your dumb punchline is so funny that it will compel me to scroll even further?

Um…

…wait for it…

…wait for it…

…wait for it…

No.

Sounds like a call to dinner for a large Southeast Asian family.

But did you find the post to be dis-empowering and to be operating in a toxic environment of dysfunctional hostility? Did it cause your self-actualizing anima to need healing? Can I get you some mint snap tea or some shit?

Miller, in truth it really is all context. You, specifically, are one of the posters that I can not recall ever being annoyed by, so you might say that your username and the reputation behind it trumps anything like that.

nah, I’m cool
