I see no contradiction. essentially is a wiesel word, the kind you would use if you wanted to seem to be contradicting Daschle, but are suffering from the handicap of also wanting to tell the truth.
Or, it is being precise with the fact that each member of the committee is briefed not as a group, but generally as individuals, and not by the same person, thus there will be differences in actual delivery of that content. If Mr. Daschle had stated that the information that he recieved was not as full or was in varience to the information that others had recieved, I’d not have a problem. But what mr Daschle stated was that he recieved No information:
