Happens everywhere, including home secured WiFi.
Using OS-X 10.6.8. Using Adobe Reader 10.1.3 .
For quite a while, when I click on a link to a PDF manual or document, I don’t get my normal Download window showing the document downloading. I get a blank web page that is entitled, " DocumentTitle ( application/PDF object ) "
Huh? It does not appear to be downloading any more. Killing me here.
Try deleting it from Home->Library->Internet Plug-Ins.
You might also check root->Library->Internet Plug-Ins.
This should allow Preview to handle your PDFs.
I had this happen recently in Firefox on a couple of computers – I suspect it was triggered by one of the updates. Here’s what fixed it for me: In Firefox->Preferences, in the Applications tab, find the entry for Portable Document Format (application/pdf). Change the action on the right (changing it to Save File worked for me), then back to what you want it to be. (You might have to actually download or start a download in between.)
Hi. Changed the Preference to “Save File”. Worked like a chahm.
Thank you so much. Indeed, there have been several Adobe updates in the last month or two and this is a fairly recent problem.
Much obliged. Mods, as you glide effortlessly above the floors in the Corridors of Ignorance, on the way to the Great Hall of The Illuminnati, please lock this thread.
You don’t need Adobe Reader to view PDFs on a Mac, as beowulff hinted. Preview, which is part of OS X, does a much better job. Unless you have a specific requirement for Adobe Reader you could save yourself some trouble by uninstalling it.
Agreed. Not only do I read, I fill out. This was also not specifically an Adobe Reader issue.
This was an issue of unknown origin that prevented me from downloading PDF files. Were it another application, Adobe Reader would be in the clear here. As it is, the Reader works just fine.
Besides, I’ve got a wonderful application called PDF Pen for Mac that allows me to turn any PDF into one that can be written into. Heartily recommend it.
