Unbelievable (Netflix mini series)

Anyone watching this? I generally don’t like true crime shows, but this one is more of a dramatization, and an extremely powerful story.

It follows the story of the victim of a serial rapist, and the two female detectives who are on his track. The victim we follow is accused of lying - hence the title.

The worst part, of course, is that this is based on a true story. That our society treats rape victims like that is just… well, unbelievable. Or at least, it should be.

Watched it, my wife and I both loved it. The final episode… man, lot of catharsis. Many tears shed. Probably the best mini-series I’ve ever seen.

We are about halfway through, and it’s definitely intense so far…

It’s really hard to explain how brilliant this show is, but here’s one example.

the way they contrast the two victim testimonies in episodes 1 and 2 is brilliant. Episode 1 is extremely uncomfortable to watch. Episode 2 still portrays a terrible situation (a detective interviewing a rape victim the next morning) but the difference between the two… Wow.

I wasn’t terribly interested in it and only watched because I really like each of the three leads. And Kaitlyn Dever, Merritt Wever and Toni Collette are all absolutely superb in what turned out to be one of the best things I have watched for a while.

I haven’t watched the show, but I listened to the episode of This American Life. It really is a shocking and sad story.
