Oops. I obviously meant why it’s never SUNNY in Philadelphia. Or else, why its ALWAYS cloudy. One of those.
Well I saw this movie recently and I can say first the MNS is a very talented director. And he gets marks for creativity in his writing, but this just did not work for me. Too often I would be following along, part of the dramatic tension and then suddenly some really hokey or silly bit comes up. I almost fell out of my seat laughing when we hear about the weakness. Ugghhh, and the cape etc. I LOVED the Sixth Sense because I thought it held together dramtically far better then this movie did. And it was trying almost too obviously to be subtle. And when your subtlety is obvious then that cannot be good. B- for me.
I just didn’t like the movie. I wanted too, I really did, being a huge fan of the Sixth Sense, but I thought it was slow, I didn’t really care about any of the Characters, alhtough Samuel Jackson was pretty awesome. The ending was a surprise so much as a groaner. I knew there was going to be a twist, but I thought it would be more twisty or something.
I also found myself laughing at parts, that I am pretty sure were not suppose to be funny. Which made me think something went wrong. I didn’t hate the movie, but the idea of two more makes me want to.
“I didn’t care too much for the funky cinematography: what’s the deal with all the upside down shots? Something related to comics that I didn’t get?”
I had that VERY same question for my husband after we left the theatre this evening. I was wondering if that had anything to do with in over-the-top, hyper-dramatic nature of comic books so we went to Boarders after the film and looked at a graphic novel to compare clothes, attitudes, whatever in the extended comic to what we saw in the film.
George, my hubby, said he should’ve known Jackson was the archetypal villan from his clothes - funky and purple. I thought that was do to his artistic nature and perhaps a fondness for Prince!
His hair blew me away, though - perhaps it was screwy to reflect what was going on in the head beneath it?
Overall, I liked the movie, but I also agree the type at the end felt tacked-on. Bet that was a studio call.
BTW - if no one else has done so already, I’m going to start a new thread based on a conversation George and I had leaving the theatre - if you could be a superhero, what would your powers and weaknesses be, what would your costume look like and what would you be called? This could be fun!
SHAZAM!

I enjoyed it, but I’m the only one I personally know that did. I did think that Bruce Willis could have put a little more energy into his performance. Samual L. Jackson was great.
Hey, maybe I’m just a little slow, but I did not see the ending coming.(didn’t in ‘Sixth Sense’ either) I guess M. Night Shyamalan just has my number.
