That’s literally as far as I got. It was more fun to start with random words and just play than to think two or three moves ahead. And also why I eventually lost.
I have played 190 games. I lost one early. And I found a place where you can pick a day and play the word for that day. I played all of the rest of the games, plus went back and played the games prior to when i started. I won all of the games. My average was barely under 3.6.
Curious about what game some of you are playing. I do Wordle on the NY Times site. I am not aware of “hard” or “easy” versions.
I am undefeated in the games I have played. If I don’t feel like I have absolutely figured it out after five guesses, I simply don’t guess again and leave the game unfinished. This means my streak isn’t very long, but I have played a lot of games and my win percent is 100. I don’t want to give that up, so I just don’t think of what I do as cheating, even though maybe it is.
Click the little settings icon in the top right corner - you’ll find a toggle for hard mode.
Huh. Thanks. I don’t think I’m interested in making it harder! What actually changes when you do play “hard”? It says “any revealed hints must be used in subsequent guesses.” So, what is a “revealed hint”?
All green letters must be used in their correct spots in subsequent guesses. All yellow letters must be incorporated somewhere in future guesses.
You can, however, reuse a yellow letter in the same known bad spot.
As for the OP, you’re a week too late for me. I did have a streak of 198 wins in a row, but then suffered my only defeat six days ago. During that streak my average score was 3.702. The wordle that got me was hunky.
GRUEL beat me recently. First loss in months. Hard mode.
FLOCK got me, on 7/18.

I also missed a day. Other than that, I’m undefeated.
Well I’m still on a streak. 105. I play on hard mode and I use irate as the starting word every time. I usually do it in 4. I’d say that’s my average.
I’ve gotten out of the habit of playing regularly, but my laptop record is 86-0 and I think I had another dozen or so wins on my phone, but those somehow got wiped when it moved to the NYT.
I’ve never lost but I got tired of it. After a certain point it’s a guessing game without skill and there’s little sense of accomplishment once you realize that.
I played it a few times and must have come to this realization without being able to put it into words. Perhaps because one of the games I played had a multiple-possible single-letter situation (is there a name for that?) as discussed above.
Anyway, I didn’t care much for the game. Instead, I spend way too much time playing the NYT Spelling Bee.
I lost fairly often. I’d say I can do streaks of 30-35 regularly and then I miss one. It’s usually a sort of random thing, where my word worked fine, but the answer was simply another choice.
I just do it to do it. It’s more about reducing it down to the right word rather than any particularly big word challenge.
It’s a game of logic, similar to Mastermind. Not just luck.
My longest streak was 119. Failure hurt more than expected.
I ate an extra planet in retaliation.
This is the exact word I lost on. Still my only defeat to date, and it irks me to no end.
Though I came very close to losing on KHAKI recently.
Well I just lost my second Wordle today. Two losses, since Christmas Eve 2021. DAMN!
I have no way of counting, but it had been a long time since I failed with ‘khaki’. Now I actually avoid words that are too common, since I assume they would have been used already.
FYI… I have played all the words in order all the way to “the end” (in 2027). The words seem scrambled. They do not get easier or harder.
