Underwater crop circles. (Nature is awesome. And bizarre.)

Mysterious Underwater ‘Crop Circles’ Discovered Off the Coast of Japan

6 feet across and 80 feet underwater. Also not a hoax perpetrated by farmers or college students.

I won’t spoil it by revealing the origin here though. Go look at the pics and read the story.

All I can say is that I’d like to become aquatic for a decade just to see what I could discover that’s never been seen before.

Holy smokes, that’s amazing. Never seen the like before. I figured for sure it was a hydrologic process, something to do with aquifer recharge. The truth is even stranger.

That is seriously cool. Thanks for that.

So… these fish are flattening the corn into circles in Iowa?

Thanks for posting, that’s fantastic.

It’s the doorbell to R’lyeh. Push it and run the occupant will be grumpy

really cool pics.

I’m just going to leave this here.

Oh, that is just wicked awesome!

All roads lead to [DEL]Rome[/DEL] the bedroom?

It’s exactly what I guessed when I looked at the first picture, but it’s still very cool.

That was my first thought. Some sort of artifact of an eddy current. I just couldn’t come up with any combinations of currents that would get anywere close to that pattern. Then I read the story.

Only one thing to do at that point. Start a thread!

Do puffer fish also get drunk with their buddies on the weekend and go manatee tipping?

That is seriously cool. Nature never fails to astound.

That’d be flying fish, of course.

It could happen.

Only when the Mississippi overflows.
