*…about the hangover of computer commands into real-life, after long sessions at the machine. *
Who else here has experienced feelings of “Undo!” (or Ctrl-Z, or whatever your Undo fucntion is!) in the real world?
You write something in pen, make a mistake and think “Undo”
- draw a picture, make a mistake…
- Do something practical and get it irreversably wrong… (oh painful realisation that the “undo” does not work!)
That’s the most obvious “common to many” hang-over I can think of.
I also get “computer hangover” from my work as well - which involves much computer-time.
My job is that of a 3D animator, so I make up, save out, and re-load motion files for the characters I animate.
When I have a lot of work on, this process filters into my subconscious and nearly drives me batty when I’m half asleep - I find myself thinking of every movement I make as a “motion file”:
e.g.
Idly wondering what motion file I need, to get out of bed in the morning, or what to load, to get comfortable in bed at night… before I fully awaken again (with a disgusted “argh!”).
And dreaming in the layout schematics of the programme I use, where everything is broken up into four viewports and a drop down menu!
Finally, although I’m not that much of a gamer, I’m willing to bet that those who are, dream it!
Ahh the ailments of the computer age…
“Undo…”
How deeply is this affecting us?
