Back on March 28th my wife got laid off due to Covid 19. So we applied the next day. After the claim was processed their web site showed she was owed no money because they had no record of her earning any money in 2019. So I printed out the proper form and sent it along with a copy of her W2 on April 13th. Now we’re coming up on the day where we have to request the next payment and their system still shows the same thing.
I go to their “contact us” page and the only way listed to contact them is by phone. Haha. Good luck with that. Their system is so busy you can’t even get into a call queue.
If it’s just a matter of waiting until their system catches up and then she gets back paid, that will be all right. But on their web site is a button to request your next payment. In the box it says you must request payment before 04/25/2020, but the Request Payment button is greyed out.
So it sort of looks like if we don’t request payment by the 25th, my wife won’t get paid for the 1st 2 weeks. I just wish I could talk to someone at Unemployment and find out.
I wonder if contacting your state representative with the documented record of events would be prudent? If you miss the arbitrary deadline, at least you will have a record with a governing body that can intervene on your behalf. Good luck.
I just saw a news story about the mayor of Las Vegas essentially passing off all responsibility for the consequences of reopening their businesses. She says the casinos should decide because that’s their job.
How is this related to the problems we’re seeing with unemployment benefits?
This is all by design. Conservatives are now getting everything they ever dreamed of since people like Newt Gingrich, Pat Buchanan and Grover Norquist managed to convince people to listen to their pea-brain wet dreams. As little support as possible from the government to individuals. The government doing as little as possible for the public good, and always deferring to private business.
And they couldn’t have made it happen without getting votes from people who are being victimized by these very policies (no insinuation intended against the OP - I’m speaking generally). And it’s happening to them now, during a pandemic. This is the time they’ve chosen to double down on these inane ideas. It’s what conservative polices do - they kick people in the teeth when they’re already down.
Good idea. My daughter interned with a state representative when she was in college, and she was amazed at how powerful a phone call from her to a state agency was.
If people start dying in Republican states after they open too early, we’ll see what happens. But I agree - they starved the beast - and the beast was a watchdog, and now the bad guys are in the house.
We’ll be OK. Her income has been mostly going to savings. We want to buy a house. It’s just the annoyance of them only giving 1 way to contact them, by phone, then you can’t get through on the phone.
I get that they didn’t anticipate this, but set up an email address fer gosh sakes.
I can’t speak with certainty of Colorado, but I know that here in CT if you miss a period of unemployment compensation, you don’t entirely miss out. You don’t get back paid, but your eligibility is extended by whatever time you skip over.
Oof. Between this and stories from my co-workers, I’m kinda glad I didn’t have a qualifying quarter in Colorado and was kicked back to Minnesota for my unemployment. Even if I am getting less in unemployment - 50% in Minnesota compared to 60% in Colorado - at least I’m getting it.
