I’m getting checks (3 so far) and they’ve called me in! WTF?
I’ve been hearing horror storiies about havine to apply to a company and getting a lettter showing proof that I’ve been there.
This is almost impossible as most businesss won’t do this.
Anyone else out been on unemployment that can explain things? 
I have never heard of anyone being ‘audited’ on job searches. I don’t think you have to have a letter stating that you applied to a company but I don’t know how they would check to see of you did apply. I am currently in the unemployment line myself. I am not woried about being audited.
IMHO you should try to find out why they are calling you in. It could be that your former employer is saying that you were terminated for cause and the U/I folks want your side of the story.
I don’t know where the person in the OP is from, but they do in NH. I’ve been unemployed since July, and I’ve just been fortunate enough not to be sent a letter with an appointment to go in to “discuss my job search” but they do do it. All you need is to provide names and phone numbers of people you applied to, though, so I suppose it’s not that big a deal. Unless you’re not actively searching for a job, that is.
