uneven wearing out of jeans

Note: by “worn” I just mean that the color has faded, not that the fabric of the jeans is weakening.

My jeans have begun to fade over the many washings, of course. However, some areas are less worn than others. for example, while most of the leg is fairly worn, the seam that goes down the leg seems to have patches that are much darker than their surroundings. The dye tends to collect in areas where the fabric is thick.

Is dye being worn off some parts and being deposited in others? Is there some way I can rebalance the dye’s distribution?

I know this sounds stupid, but it is a genuine question, and any help is greatly appreciated.

I don’t know if this will make the coloring look more even over all, but Rit dye makes a denim color specificly for “refreshing” blue jeans. Never tried it though because I usually wear holes in mine before I notice any uneven color wear.

If you wash them inside out, I think it helps them fade less/more evenly.

At least that’s been my experience with the black ones. I haven’t worn a pair of blue ones in a couple of years.
