Last Thursday I gradually realized that I felt a side stitch, but I haven’t run in months. Hadn’t been doing anything remotely excersize-like, either.
It wasn’t a severe stitch, and it wasn’t always felt – just when I breathed or twisted a certain way, when I bent over, crouch, slouch, or in some way exert undue force on my abdominal region. But it was there, and still is, five days later. It hasn’t gotten any worse, but it is annoying and the worry makes it less and less tolerable.
If I sit up straight and press hard enough into my gut just under the right side of my ribcage, at a height a little above the navel, it does feel a little tender. And today I did feel a few quick bursts of a very mild sharp pain below my ribcage, just to the right of my sternum. It felt like it was coming from not too far under the surface. But it went away in 30 seconds max. This was right after lunch.
No vomiting, no stomach upset, no loss of appetite, no fever, no constipation, and in general no other effects other than the nagging stitch.
I did have a pretty bad head and chest cold at the start of the previous week, and had been coughing hard for days, so I’m sure my abs and diaphragm got stressed hard.
I also had surgery for pyloric stenosis at 2 weeks of age. I am 22 now.
My fears are appendicitis and hernia, so I have made an appointment with a doctor. But to ease my mind until then, I ask: is it unheard of for a stitch like this to manifest itself the way it is?
