Unforgettable-How does that work, again?

One aspect of the show Unforgettable makes it unwatchable for me. The plots are tight, the acting is acceptable for that type of series…but how the hell does her ability work? She supposedly can remember everything that ever happened to and around her, but logically she should only be able to re-see the things her eyes focused on in the first place, right? She should be able to recall the details of a painting if her eyes never focused the first time she was in the room.
Am I missing something here?

Ummm, suspension of disbelief?

Seriously, you’re right. They’re treating her mind as if she were a video camera. Our memories don’t work like that at all. (See some of the youtube videos on “situational blindness”. (e.g. search for “color change card trick” by Richard Wiseman.))

J.

What kind of vision would allow her to focus on all items in a room at the same time?

Tele-vision.

I don’t think that’s how it’s being shown at all.

They show her when she’s at a crime scene very deliberately looking around at everything possible. When they go back it’s that some new piece of information makes something she’s already seen more significant.

It’s more that she’s adjusted to the advantages of her ability so she’s setting herself up for using it later in the case.
