Unilateral Regime Change

I’m trying to think of some recent precedents for our Great Leader’s unilateral (don’t bother mentioning the 29 other irrelevant countries that have been bribed to support this imperialist venture) pre-emptive war designed to achieve “regime change” in a sovereign nation in defiance of the international community.

All I can think of at the moment is:

  1. Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait in 1991; and

  2. Adolph Hitler’s invasion of Poland in the early 1940s.

I’m sure I"m missing a few.

Thanks for your help.

Gee how young are you??!

  • Nato supported US invasion of Afghanistan (wasnt that just last year?)

  • US invasion of Panama to oust Noriega

  • North Vietnam invasion of South Vietnam

  • Israel occupation of Palestine

  • Syria, Jordan and Egypt’s attempt to take over Israel in the October war.

  • Pick any country that the Soviet Union “visited” including Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Uzbeskistan and Cezchoslovakia.

The only real problem with the 2 examples you mentioned is that Hitler and Saddam didnt invade to facilitate a regime change. They did it to take over. There is no indication that the US is planning to takeover Iraq.

I hope you’re right, but the way Bush is building up a track record of popping unpleasent surprises out of his hat, I wouldn’t hold my breath on the US not planning to take over Iraq.

Again, time will tell and hopefully prove me wrong. So far, I see all my prejudices about Bush being confirmed by his actions. sigh

Addendum: Adolf Hitler’s invasion of Poland was in 1939.
