Unisex bathrooms - the time has come!

Glory holes??!??! No way! Straight dope needed.

Related question : what the protocol for parents with small children of the opposite sex who need to go to the bathroom? Do the parent go to the bathroom corresponding to his/her gender, or to the child’s gender?

In the U.S., a child below a certain age, regardless of gender, will go to the ladies’ room with its mother. If it’s out with the father instead . . . Well, a little boy will go to the men’s room with his father. But I have never, ever seen a little girl in a men’s room.

How does it work in France?

(Not that I would be inclined take the advice of the French on anything restroom-related. I mean, seatless squat-toilets?! )

Really? In Canada I’ve taken my daughter in with me. I would have thought if I had taken her into the ladies room I’d be presumed to be using her as a get in free card. I did appreciate those new “family restrooms” though! (Nature Girl is well old enough to go on her own now).

I’ve heard of this. Glory Hole Whack-a-Mole, right?

I certainly recall seeing little girls brought into the men’s room by their dad. Caused exactly zero fuss.

I’m against unisex bathrooms. Instead, I like the idea of 3 seperate bathrooms - men, women, and family. I’ve seen this in movie theaters from california to ohio. That way you elimate the long lines women have to wait in - the overflow of females can use the family restroom. It also helps parents with small children, disabled people with opposite sex caretakers and transgendered people who feel uncomfortable using either one.

As long as they let single people use such restrooms. Some places have policies against anyone without kids using them.
