Unisex bathrooms: Yay or Nay?

I went to Berkeley, too, and lived in the dorms and co-ops. I would have to echo pretty much everything Zagadka said, and add that in my dorm, the stall closest to the door was designated the “men’s” stall, so the men could pee on the seat as much as they wanted. If they peed in another stall, the agreement was that they’d clean up any seat messes.

I actually liked the co-ed restroom situation. Allowed my boyfriend and I to shower together without anyone getting freaked out, and also allowed groups of people to converse while in the bathroom, regardless of gender. I remember quite a few interesting conversations I had with floormates.

My co-op was pretty small and the room I lived in had its own toilet/sink so I didn’t use common bathrooms for business-doing, but I think if I had it wouldn’t have bugged me at all.

I would have no problem using a unisex bathroom in a public place.

Holy crap, I had forgotten about that! And everyone had a little sign up with a crayon or marker drawing showing a guy urinating or something. It is funny how a practice like that can be so unofficially widespread over time.

Ooh, I had forgotten about that, too. Thanks for the trips down memory lane.

I’m trying to think of something to add to this thread to justify this post.

Ah, yes. I believe I stated something to this effect before - my only problem with unisex restrooms is that it forces people into situations that may be uncomfortable for them. This is likely to change over time, but I would be more than for seeing a situation where an “extra” unisex bathroom was added to plans, mainly as an overflow for women to cut down on their lines. Over time, people would get used to using this.

Maybe we should also incorporate a book a little more sophisticated and serious than “Everybody Poops” somewhere.
