I found a very informative video about the actual rescue operation itself. it sounds absolutely incredible. They set up an airstrip and refueling point in Iranian territory, just outside of Isfahan.
There will probably be a movie made about this operation someday.
Considering how the IRGC treats their own people, I have absolutely no reservations in celebrating the rescue of an American airman from their clutches. YMMV.

Mind you, I have no illusions that the Iranian government wanted the US person alive to have them sit down for tea and scones. They’re not nice people and they no doubt would want to extract as much intel as possible from any prisoner.
I’m not even sure if that’s true. The Intel they could get from an individual pilot might not be significant, especially compared to the propaganda advantage of scrupulously following international law regarding prisoners of war.
