The Houthis are announcing a blockade on Saudi Arabia (presumably a blockade of the Red Sea?, there goes the alternative route to Hormuz)
“Alternative route to Hormuz” doesn’t make sense here. Yes, a Red Sea blockade would block the main route between Europe and Hormuz, but it’s not “alternative” to some other route. Other routes, such as going the long way around Africa, are alternative to it.
More important, though, is that it’s the main route between China and Europe. Consider what happened a while back when a ship got stuck in the Suez Canal. Pretty much the same thing, except the Saudis can still export to Europe because they have a port on the Red Sea north of where the blockade would be.
I mean it in the sense that they are using pipelines to send oil to Red Sea ports to avoid shipping it through the Strait of Hormuz, I’m mistaken in thinking that that is being done?
I refered to that in my post. There’s one cross-Arabian pipeline to one port on the Red Sea. As I said, that port is north of the blockade, so they can still ship from there to Europe. Yes, it would block the route from there to east Asia, but the pipeline doesn’t have the capacity to supply all the usual amount of oil sent to east Asia anyway.
