Unlimited Funds for Hillary?

Me to.

Jethro Q Walrustitty is a member of the Silly Party, not the Monster Raving Loonie Party.

I can just imagine the high powered people required to manage a presidential campaign living out of a suitcase in Little Rock, Arkansas.

People are talking about Elizabeth Dole running for President in 2008. Does she still hold her office in the Red Cross? I’d hate to see my donations to that organization being used (along with all that French, Saudi, and Chinese money) for her instead of sick people and disaster relief. Maybe they could put a box on the form where you can check if you don’t want your money to be embezzled into a secret political slush fund.

Oh, my fucking word; this left me gasping for air. Sheer literary brilliance.

Hillary doesn’t NEED to loot the library fund. She already has 100% name recognition and she has an unmatched ability to raise funds in the show biz community.

If she runs, she’ll be formidable, and she doesn’t need to do anything shady (let alone illegal) to get the money for her campaign.

My only question is, does she really WANT to be President? We’ll see soon enough, but I have my doubts. If she REALLY wanted to run, 2004 was the time to do it. All of her assets will be less valuable in 2008 than they would have been in 2004.

I thought we were here to fight ignorance. Not promote it.

Is there the slightest evidence…just one actual fact, however miniscule…to suggest that Hillary Rodham Clinton is going to run for President in 2008, 2012, or any other damn year? Other than the fever-dreams of rabid ideologues who salivate at any excuse to attack Senator Clinton’s character, I mean?

Marley23: hero.

You’ll be pleased to know that Senator Dole retired from the Red Cross when she began to explore running for President, so the donations from you and the Red Chinese are safe.

Roseworm, at the risk of bumping a thread which deserves to fade to page 2 obscurity, I’d like you to verify, well, pretty much everything you’ve asserted. Specifically,

That Sen. Clinton has more access to “her wing” at the Clinton Presidential Library than any private citizen – more specifically that she can use that wing or any other part of the library as a headquarters for a presidential bid.

Donations to the library are indeed not covered by campaign-finance laws. Please provide evidence that if the library were to use some of those funds for a presidential campain that those expenditures would not be covered by campaign finance laws.

That the board of the library can use finds in any way they see fit.

That the library need not disclose the source of donations (actually, I think this may actually be true, but I’d still like to see a site for it, as I believe you stumbled on a true fact entirely by accident and have no personal knowledge of whether it’s true or not).

Gyro?

Err, that should have read:

El_Kabong: Did you mean Gyro?

Marley 23 v Roseworm !

My money’s on Marley …funniest post I have read in a long time. But I have to wonder if Roseworm even got it? I mean, it is a post that requires a few synapses to thoroughly enjoy.

Awww dwc , come on now…you know that is just going to make them want a prevarication wing for issues related to Iran Contra in the Reagan Library. This is not a bad idea on the face of it but I think it could get a tad out of hand, don’t you?

Yeah, they could call it The North Wing of The Reagan Library.

Some of you seem to believe that Hillary Clinton would have access to library funds for her campaign. Not true. The management of the library has been turned over to the National Archive and Records Administration, just like all presidential libraries.

Funds for the library’s maintenance are required to come from an endowment from private donations, and from public funds.

All funds for Sen. Clinton’s future campaigns will be regulated by the same rules that govern anyone’s campaign funds. Well, anyone but Tom DeLay, anyway.

I believe the exact number is pretty close to one.

Sorry, I don’t get it.

So, we first get manhattan correctly pointing out that regardless what the library wishes to do with its funds, Ms. Clinton’s campaign would still be governed by Federal regulations regarding what funds it could accept, then we get AskNott pointing out that the library is run, independently, by NARA (which will still be under Republican supervision in 2008).

So, when do we get to see Rosie coming back to apologize for being a loon?

Geez, there are some weird new posters around here lately!
