McCartney says he wants to release “Carnival of Light,” a 14-minute experimental track the Fab Four recorded in 1967 but never released.

The band played the recording for an audience just once, at an electronic music festival in London. It reportedly includes distorted guitar, organ sounds, gargling and shouts of “Barcelona!” and “Are you all right?” from McCartney and John Lennon.

So - Beatles experts: what can you tell us about this track? If released, will it be worth seeking out?

I’d love it to be another “Revolution 9”–unlike most, I’m a huge fan of that underappreciated recording–but I’m not expecting much. Having been recorded in a single evening, it sounds like it was just tossed off in the studio rather than painstakingly constructed as “Revolution 9” was. I’m still eager to hear it. If only they’d issue it on a CD together with the legendary 27-minute take of “Helter Skelter”!
