Alright let me preface this with saying that i have a annoying form of acne where there is no pimple really, just a swollen inflamed portion of skin.
There is no puss or anything, just a swollen, painful nodule that lasts a week and leaves an ugly purple scar that takes a month or two to fade away.
Well to get to the point a few months ago I went on a severe diet and exercise plan, and incredibly my acne just cleared up completely.
For several months my skin looked great,i’m still doing the exercise but when i had lost enough weight i started eating normally again because to tell the truth i was starting to look a little emaciated.
Sure enough my acne has now returned in full force, and i’m sure its not a food allergy because i never cut any food out, just ate less of everything.
So it appears the cure for my acne is starvation.
I’ve heard that cutting out peanut butter and milk will help, but I have no idea if that is true. Changing your pillowcase every couple of days is good, too.
For myself, changing face soap worked wonders. Right until I got pregnant. Don’t get pregnant if you want clear skin.
Well, I can never remember to use any of that silly Oxy stuff. Probably because I hate it too much to care. So, I go with this, which may not be that unusual:
I mostly get these really small blemishes that don’t really get red. ** TMI alert! ** They’re just sort of these white little pus things that come to a head overnight, get popped, then go away just as fast. The leftover scar’s the worst.
My normal workout consists of running for ten minutes to warmup, followed by 30-45 minutes of weight lifting, then another 20-30 minutes of cardio. My face stays much clearer if I rinse and dry my face after the warmup and immediately after finishing my workout (i.e. I never allow sweat to dry on my face). My theory is that the rinsing cuts down on bacteria.
The weirdest thing I’ve heard is to rinse your face with your first urine of the morning, but I’m just not that much of a diehard for clear skin.
I had really bad acne as a teenager. It cleared up when a doctor told me to wash my face with a cloth or brush and water only, no soap, no cleanser just a good scrub morning and night.
I had a friend in the beauty business that told me as a teenager to wash my face with Aqua Velva to clear up my acne. It did work. Are you sure you don’t have dermatitis? A friend of mine had an awful case of that for years until a doctor put her on some kind of antibiotics. After a year or so her face finally cleared up.
Don’t laugh - I know it sounds like a quack cure - but I use tincture of yarrow. It doesn’t cure things completely, but when using it on a regular basis I have significantly less acne than normal (granted these days I don’t have that much trouble with acne anyway).
Eat raw onions if it’s just normal acne. Yes, you should brush your teeth and use mouthwash after. I do not know why it works, but it does. One whole onion a day seems to keep acne at bay (a new variation on that old apple saying.)
You should probably see a dermatologist, though. Sometimes what looks like acne is dermatitis, which was already mentioned, or rosacea (which might be the same thing, I’m not sure.)
Detoll works for me… kinda. As well as anything can work for a teenage girl doin the whole “hormone” thing.
Mix a teeny bit with a bottle of witch hazel toner, like, a teaspoon for a 150mls.
shake, then apply with a cotton swab all over your face, then scrub with a handcloth really hard.
Mrs. Gaffer is way past the acne stage but will still get an occassional zit, especially near her period. In any case, she puts a light coat of toothpaste over the offending blemish and it usually clears right up. Of course, you have to walk around with toothpaste on your face but apparently it is a small price to pay.
Ok…this isn’t really strange acne cures, but this cured up my severe acne:
My face is really oily and really dry at the same time…Tazarac has worked wonders.
I had a problem with back and chest acne…Nutrogena acne mask, as well as benzol perozide, has worked wonders.
Baking soda scrubs have been the ONLY thing that helps my daughter’s acne. She has always been a water guzzler, used extra mild facial cleansers, changed her pillowcase every night and washcloth every day…but still with the acne!
I saw the baking soda suggestion online and thought it was worth a shot. It’s been like a miracle. Just mix a pinch with water and lightly rub on your face, let it dry, then wash off. She follows with an astringent, but the website suggested alcohol.
Do it every day.
She got worse at first, but after two weeks her face was pretty much clear. Just a few blackheads left on her nose now.
As a teenager, I got a job in an auto repair shop. The only thing in the restroom to wash with was Lava hand soap. I used it to wash my face too and my acne cleared up.
Well, my skin is OILY to the EXTREME. So is my acne.
I take tablets called Minocycline daily, which REALLY help prvent any major outbreaks. I recommend everybody with extreme cases. They only outbreaks I have had with pus-headed zits have come when I’ve missed a day.
However it’s STILL not completely effective and I STILL get pimples - the kind that never ‘erupt’ but stay around for about a month even if you pop them to get the fluid out like a hundred times, are REALLY painful, and make HUGE lumps in your skin that eventually became lasting red marks.
HOW do I deal with these? :’(
