Unusual album covers

I agree. (The cover features a topless pubescent girl.)

The issue is not whether it’s pornography, but whether it’s something you want popping up on your work computer.

Sorry, I thought about NSFW but then I figured eh, it’s a rather popular album cover from the '60s, shouldn’t be a big deal. I’ll be more cautious next time.

Bongripper - Heroin

Not an unusual cover, but it came packaged with a kit for shooting up. Just add heroin!

Yeah, unfortunately things have changed a lot since then, what with the “OMGKIDDIEPORN!!!111One!” crowd getting their undies in a bunch over what would have been considered perfectly innocent photos of kids from days gone by. In a climate where parents can be arrested for taking bathtime pics of babies, I just thought it might not be a great idea to get that image stuck in my browser cache at work. Sad but true.

Yes, but it hasn’t been available for a long time. I bought a copy of the LP with the original cover in 1969, which I still have. (Being 17 at the time, I had to stash it so my parents couldn’t see it.) But the cover that replaced itdue to the controversy was very generic.

The Brain Salad Surgery album cover was unusual: Brain Salad Surgery - Wikipedia

I swear, every one of these threads about album covers has the words “Blind Faith” or “Virgin Killer” in them somewhere. I’m sick of hearing about them.

Anyway, carry on.

Billiion Dollar Babies had a one foot long Billion Dollar Bill in it (which, I’m pretty sure, was fake).

My nomination is Smell the Glove, by Spinal Tap. It was black. Totally black, and if you were to ask "How much blacker can it get?’ the answer is "None. None blacker. "
Best wishes,

This is the one I came in to mention. The linked picture wasn’t even the best packaging for the album. There was one version that consisted of 12 CDs, individually wrapped in blister packs,, one for each song on the album.

Lynyrd Skynyrd had to change their album cover after the plane crash that killed part of the band.

The original cover showed the band members with fire and that was bad taste after the crash.

When Spinal Tap released Break Like the Wind they packaged the CD jewel case in an 18" “extra-long box” to make fun of the wasteful long box controversy.

This is beyond the range of the OP’s request for oddly shaped LP covers, but the all-black cover thing was done back in 1969 by comedian Murray Roman for his album Blind Man’s Movie. Not only was the gatefold cover itself entirely black inside and out, it even had an all-black booklet bound inside!
