Can you reccomend a site that has demo programs (hopefully single executables) that demonstrate, using graphics and clever programming, things like traffic, or crowds of people, or flocking birds.
I hope you understand this request. I find these things fascinating.
‘simulet’ huh? I meant ‘simulate’.
Yes. ::goes off to wrack brain::
Okay, got it.
Bear in mind that the following is fucking meaningless to me: “…demo programs (hopefully single executables)…” Please don’t complain if I got the wrong thing.
I’ll save the best for last.
First is to google for “traffic” and “applet” and see what comes up. Something will. I just tried it. You might try “java” instead of “applet” and see what happens. I tried it with “crowd” instead of “traffic” and I’m not sure if there is anything immediately good. As a rule, searching for any word and “applet” will frequently bring interesting results, especially if you are a math and/or science person.
Next, try the simulation section of the java botique.
Next, and best, go to the Traffic Forum: trafficforum.de . Go to the links page and there is a section of links to simulations. They are of varying degrees of fun for the layperson. Of note is Craig Reynold’s page on pedestrian applets, since he has links to other models of group behaviors, including boids. Also under the “General Media” section is a link to “multi-agent simulations of panic situations.” That’s new to me, as I haven’t visited this page in years.
If you want to get straight to it, go in reverse order—what with me saving the best for last, and all. Let me know if this is what you were looking for.
Don’t leave me hangin’! Is that what you were lookin’ fer? Aren’t they cool?!
I wasn’t looking for that, but I had been looking for something like the Encyclogram for a while. They’re all cool! Thanks!
Yay!
I can’t tell you how much time I spent cyber-slacking w/ those things when I was doing traffic studies. I was the only person who liked them. Until today.
