Unwrinkling my wrinkle-free pants

I have a couple of pairs of “wrinkle-free” pants for work but recently one of them comes out of the dryer very wrinkled. Is there anything that can be done for them?

I usually wash them once a week or after wearing them twice and I dry them in the dryer with a fabric softener. I did think about taking them to a dry cleaner and seeing if they would do the trick. I have also tried ironing them, but that did not help at all.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you overdried them - try washing again (or just a good rinse), and dry carefully!

What is the fiber composition? Are you following the washing instructions exactly?

If ironing them doesn’t help you’re in trouble. The dry cleaners can probably get them looking good but that cost adds up over the life of the pants.

My dryer has a permanent press cycle that blows cool air for a few minutes at the end of the cycle, which helps prevent wrinkling as the clothes sit in the dryer after the cycle. If hot clothes sit in a bunch, the wrinkles will tend to set, but not as much with cool clothes. If your dryer is not so equipped, the alternative is to remove the pants and hang them up the very second that the dryer stops.

If you do want to iron, then try spraying them lightly with water before ironing. This does wonders for ironing out wrinkles though adds to the time it takes to iron. You have to iron until the fabric is dry otherwise wrinkles appear and set easily. Also use the steam setting if your iron has steam.

Last resort is to return them since they do not perform as advertised. I have three pairs of cotton chinos that are not advertised as wrinkle-free; I iron them but they are certainly wearable if I don’t. If your wrinkle-free pants are that wrinkled then it’s false advertisting.

My dad wears nothing but permanent press stuff. Poor sap. But he takes it out of the dryer IMMEDIATELY so’s not to get wrinkles. I’m going to try that with my FACE!

There are two (maybe more) types of wrinkle free fabrics. The older type has a finish applied. They can be rewashed and dried to be ok if taken out after a cool down tumble in the drier. The newer type is the nano-technology I don’t know if they are as forgiving.

I just put them in the shower room when I take a shower, the steam smooths them out. You can take them out of the dryer before they are completely dry too if you want & air dry them.

I have tried rewashing them but that did not resolved the bigger probelm. They looked ok when I got them out of the wash, but the next time I washed them, they were all wrinkled. I tried hanging them, but that did not help either.

If it helps, they are Haggar Cool 18 brand pants.

Our dryer does not have a “cooldown” at the end of it, unfortunately. I will have to try and wash/dry them and take them out as soon as the dryer finishes.

Any other ideas?
