update on server/speed upgrades to SDMB?

[wishful thinking]
I have only recently come to the boards here, but I already find the incredibly slow performance of the servers that host it highly frustrating. The relevant entries in the FAQ thread at the top of this forum explains the situation well enough, but that information is about a year old now. Anything new to report?
[/wishful thinking]

There was an upgrade in November. But as with previous upgrades, traffic increased to the point where the immediate performance gain was wiped out. Because of that and tight money, upgrades are very infrequent.

What rowrrbazzle says is correct. Inside of 8 weeks of the the installation of the new server, page loads increased by about 60%. All new capacity was rapidly consumed, just as we expected. In March 2003 the SD website averaged 2 million page views per week, with the SDMB accounting for 1.4 million of this number.

rowrrbazzle, UncleBeer, thanks for the swift responses. There must be a sweet spot eventually where capacity will meet demand, and I hope you can eventually attain the resources to get there.

It’s a shame that such an immensely popular site is in such a financial pinch.

Yep, when the 3/4 of the world that want to fight ignorance (and aren’t banned) find this place, then the load will level off.

3/4 is surely an overestimate, Irishman.

For me at least, performance is still considerably better than the couple of months prior to the last upgrade.
