I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that I bought just shy of two years ago. I recently downloaded a game that’s an updated version of one of those classic early 1990s adventure games, and it doesn’t work. Their tech support says it’s because my system isn’t within spec for their game, which makes no sense to me, since the game was released eight months before my machine was made. The tech support says that I should also check my drivers, which are out of date.
I went to Dell’s site and entered the code on the back of my machine which identifies it. Apparently all that gets me is a list of what drivers are available for this system, and does not check into what I already have. From what I’ve read, I need to be careful to install new drivers in a certain order, but I don’t know what that order is.
I tried downloading a driver manager, but apparently all of them want me to pay them. There’s got to be decent freeware out there.
Help?
Thanks!
You actually have to download and install the drivers yourself. It does not matter in which order you do it.
So what is you operating system and version?
Windows 7, service pack 1. I update it whenever the automatic program says to, for what that’s worth.
What game, and can you give any more specific specs on your machine. RAM, CPU, etc
The Secret of Monkey Island, downloaded from Steam, and Pentium Dual-Core CPU TT4400 @ 2.2 GHz, 3 gig RAM, 64 bit. I forgot to say earlier that I have Win 7 Home Premium.
If its from steam, have you contacted them? Alot of the steam stuff has been modified by them to work within their system if steam is providing it they should be providing some support for it. Especially since many developer made patches for software sold via steam will break the steam version.
