State Department guidance is that US citizens must “enter and leave” the US on the US passport, irrespective of any other nationality they may hold (link). Of course, the requirement to leave the US “on a US passport” is quite pointless in a situation where passports are not checked by CBP upon departure (because it gets this data from the airline); you’re not showing any passport upon departure (at least not to CBP), so you can’t be said to leave the US “on” any passport. But that’s what the rules say.
Hooray! Here’s hoping that was the right way to update that info.
Is it possible that it is flagged by TSA if I use my Kingdom of Bir Tawil passport (assume it is a real kingdom) when going through TSA instead of my US passport when going through airport security outbound from the US?
No, TSA just checks you match your ID. They don’t record it, as far as I know.
UPDATE to the update: the Denver enrollment center called me back! They just told me that if I have no confirmation by the time of my upcoming trip that the situation has been resolved, I should just bring my passport there and update my info on a walk-in basis. Now would it be so difficult to post that kind of info on the Global Entry website in the FAQs somewhere?
Huh? DoD clearance holder here. I have to report any foreign travel prior to leaving and fill out a debriefing after I return. Doesn’t mention anything about what passport you use. I just filled out an SF86 for renewal of my clearance and it asked for ALL foreign travel in the past ten years. Again regardless of what passport was used. SF86 does ask if you hold a foreign passport or multiple citizenships, but that is unrelated to the foreign travel reporting.
OK. I was looking at [an official American government form] which said that travel on an American passport did not need to be listed, but I’ve never attempted actual security clearance, and no idea now WTF I was looking at or why it had that exception.
Update to the update to the update: I got what looks like an automated email that the request to correct my Trusted Traveler account has been processed. I guess I’ll find out if it actually worked the next time we travel internationally…
As a Global Entry holder, I haven’t presented my passport to enter the US in almost a decade. My photo is taken and the biometric is compared against what the US immigration has on file, a receipt is printed and I go on my merry way. No passport presented. It’s with me, but I’ve never been asked for it on entry.
This.
Any foreign travel. Including a daytrip on foot across the Rio Grande.
Last time I used Global Entry it was even easier. Just walk through, cameras picked up face ID as we were walking. There was a guy from immigration telling people to skip the kiosks and just keep walking on towards baggage reclaim and customs (most of were heading to the kiosks from habit).
ICE is really rolling out some very efficient new tech for GE. I’ve been amazed to see like 5 iterations of these things in the last 3 or 4 years. Including the magic walk through the hall & be recognized.
Now that it’s super easy, the administration criminal regime is about to pull up the gangplank and make foreign travel (and hence returning from foreign travel) very difficult and expensive for all Americans.
Of course the tech behind those super-easy GE entry portals will be very handy for implementing the police state to follow shortly.
You are presenting your passport, you are just using biometric identification rather than someone opening the cover on the physical passport and comparing the picture by eye. This is why you need to update the TTP portal with your current passport info.
So virtually presenting your virtual passport to the virtual officer.
