I do have XP – didn’t realize I hadn’t answered that part.
The reason IE makes me nervous is that it completely fucked up my machine last year – there was this whole long thing where I tripped over my modem (I’m DSL) and then couldn’t get online after that, so I replaced the modem (three or four days’ worth of story there), but it turned out it wasn’t the modem, it was IE, so I had to find Firefox and install it – a day or two’s worth of story there, how do you download Firefox when you can’t get online from that machine? – etc., etc., etc., many, many long phone calls with polite young men in India, etc., etc., etc.
So after six days, total, I finally had internet access at home again (and thank god that I had a freelance gig during that period where I could go in and go online from there, I’m not working FT so there is no reliable “at work” to have access from) – and no clear understanding of what had happened except “FF good, IE bad.”
So I am very, very gun-shy about using IE – I don’t think I could uninstall it, but I certainly put mental duct tape over that button.
And I’m not entirely sure I want to use the Netflix instant view, if you really are going through IE, however indirectly, but it sounded like it made sense to upgrade the FF regardless, so I did that yesterday afternoon.
