I really enjoyed it. It’s refreshing to find a much more lighthearted take on many of the themes presented in material like Black Mirror, Westworld, the works of Phillip K Dick, The Matrix, so on and so forth.
Yeah, I feel a lot of the legal, technical, economic, social and other details are left sort of vague, inconsistent and anachronistic, depending on how it fits in with the plot or what parallelism they want to make to the current world.
I binged on it last night and this morning. I thought it was a fun, easy show to watch. Don’t think so hard on the details. I hope to see another season.
We just finished the show last night. In general we liked it; fun, thoughtful, not completely obvious. The biggest problem is that they were inconsistent whenever it proved useful for the plot. That, and people making stupid quick decisions based on incomplete information. I admit, the times that happened were disappointing, and it’s a worse that it seemed to accelerate as we approached the final episodes.
All in all, still a positive, and I’m looking forward to season 2.
My biggest issue was that they pretty much kept the audience in the dark about what was going on with his old partner. So when the “twist” happened, it didn’t have much of an impact, because I wasn’t sure what we were supposed to originally thought had happened.
I don’t really get Nora’s dad’s objection to the upload thing. Clearly, he believes that the soul goes to a metaphysical afterlife when death occurs, even for uploads. This just allows him to have his cake and eat it too.
Exactly this. We’re basically dealing with made-up, impossible technology, so you just gotta go with whatever they throw at you. Yeah, it could have been more consistent, but that’s not really the point.
It’s a very minor thing, but I was quite hoping for Nora’s jerk boss to get a comeuppance of some sort, and was disappointed that she didn’t. Hopefully they’re saving something for next season, because I really want to see her go down.
The second (shorter) season is out. I liked the thriller aspect of it more than in Season 1, but it felt like it ended in a very unresolved place. I still enjoyed it, though.
Wife and I just finished binging this. We both enjoyed it immensely. Sure, a crazy premise. But we thought it was really interesting to think of such things as that “status” of uploaded beings. Especially if someone else held the pursestrings.
Was sorry the 2d season was so short. In 17 short eps, it really moved to a different place than the sorta light futuristic comedy it started as.
We have one episode left in Season 2 and this has to be one of the most interesting shows out there. I’m just sorry there isn’t more buzz for it. Introducing the ‘download’ aspect definitely added some interesting possibilities, as did where the Free upload centers were located.
Agreed. I can’t even call it a “cliffhanger,” really. It just ended abruptly without finishing the season’s plot, like there was supposed to be one more episode and somebody forgot to… upload it.
I also felt the long gap between seasons hurt it a bit. There were a lot of “oh yeah, I forgot about that part” and “wait, who’s that guy again?” moments. But I didn’t feel like going back and re-watching season 1, so I just plowed ahead. I was able to follow well enough, but still, continuity suffered.
Still a really interesting premise and imaginative execution. Nice to see Nathan and Nora finally getting together in the real world (though I suspect that’s a very temporary situation). Hopefully season 3 drops relatively quickly. Stupid pandemic.
I was trying to pretend it doesn’t exist because I hate Amazon’s “one episode per week” policy. I much prefer to watch one or two episodes per evening.
I’m over halfway done and I’m enjoying it. I’m not sure how the conspiracy is going to play itself out, but I hope it will be relatively satisfying.
I finished it just now and I liked the season, even the cliffhanger. You can definitely see that they set up for an AI Guy revolt next season, which should be fun.
