I saw this on the news this morning, with pictures of the girl, and it’s in several news pages this morning, so I assume it’s true.
The one Urban Legend that took me in was the one about the poisonous snake that was hidden in a shipment of rugs from Asia that bit a woman at the local Two Guys, back when I was a kid. It not only had an air of plausibility about it that Legends like the Spider’s-Nest-In-The-Beehive-Hairdo lacked, but it was reported in the local newspaper as well. It turned out to be an Urban Legend (although we didn’t have that term in the 1960s).
Well, I guess it’s plausible enough to actually be true. If I’m being taken in, so are a lot of other people:
