Ureteroscopy -- pain? Soreness? Complications?

So next Friday I go in to get a ureteroscopy in order to find, demolish, and remove one of my two appallingly large kidney stones.

I’m wondering, has anyone here ever gone through the procedure before? I’m trying to figure out how long I’m going to be out of commission and how long the procedure itself will take, but I’m also interested in general stories to reassure me that I’m not about to put my life into my doctor’s hands. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Mods, if this should go in IMHO, please shift. Note I am not asking for medical advice – just anecdotes! I won’t be changing what I do as a result of what I see here)

From what I’ve observed of other people’s kidney stones, nothing could possibly be worse than having one, so I’d guess the 'scope will be nothing by comparison.

When my husband had largish stones, the managed to bust 'em up using ultrasound instead of anything invasive, and it was completely painless. Presumably your own doctors have a reason not to use that method.

Oh yes. That reason being I don’t have insurance that will cover the extra $7000 or so for that procedure. :frowning:
