Urethral catfish CONFIRMED!

In reference to a post of about a month ago…

The Aquarium today received word from John G. Lundberg, Curator of Ichthyology at The Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, and a researcher of Amazon fishes. He reports:

“(Candirús finally earned their notoriety for supposed inadvertent entry into the urethrae of humans with the first medically-verified case of such behavior in Brazil in 1998.)”

This will be published in an upcoming article, currently in press with The Annals of the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
