Don’t drug stores sell catheters? Also, if you already have a full bladder, what benefit would there be from a diuretic? It seems to me, ignorantly admittedly, that that would only worsen your situation?
I have no idea how appropriate such a technique is with somebody with otherwise normal bladder function but I use the crede method to manually empty my bladder. I’ve been doing this for 17 years with nary a problem.
A diuretic stimulates urine production. It has nothing to do with the ability to evacuate the bladder. If you are having trouble emptying a full bladder a diuretic is only going to make it worse.
Yeah I don’t think he should use a diuretic…unless for some reason he wants to explode his bladder. I mean, I guess that would be one way of expelling urine.
drugs the UCD system has that the pharmacy does not:
Tamsulosin (take one at bedtime - sleeper?)
Docusate one or 2 daily 100 mg - pain?
and FloMax - drains male bladders by elongating prostate (I least this one was mentioned on 3/9)
I lost a week 2/24 - 3/4. I thought today was Friday.
Fun times.
If you’re having urinary retention causing anuria - no urine stream at all - you need to go to the ER. If you keep diddling around at home, you could end up with a complete loss of control of your bladder and a permanent catheter, or a torn ureter and sepsis.
If you’re in End Stage Renal Failure, I can’t tell you how much urine you’re expected to produce hourly. It may very well be that 10-20cc is your new normal; I’ve cared for patients on dialysis with ESRF who literally haven’t urinated in years. But if you feel uncomfortable, then don’t wait any longer. Go to the ER where they can check the residual level of urine in your bladder and give you a catheter if need be.
