Urinating Cat

My family has an old cat, perhaps 14 years, who has a nasty problem. He urinates everywhere but the litterbox. Some of this is marking spray, I’m sure, but the majority of the puddles seem to be everyday urine. He also on occassion has defecated outside of the litterbox.

Any way to stop this?

Relevant Information: He is diabetic, and on insulin. His legs are very weak from the diabetes, and he also has bronchial problems.

My cat will be 12 in a month, if I let him live. He began NOT peeing in the litter box about four weeks back. He’s outside every day, but he lets loose on a bathmat if we are away. Got back from the vet yesterday, urine is OK. The beatings will commence at 8:30pm.

I will be watching this thread.

I must say in a completely unrelated fashion that the thread title is the worst Indian name ever.

Feline urinary problems.

My cat has suddenly decided to get her revenge on the bathmat. She has never had issues before, but is about 15 years old.
I swear, the mat hasn’t lasted 72 hours out of the dryer.

I know how to solve the bathmat problem.

Hang it up and just put it down when you’re taking a shower. Tacky, but effective.

There are a lot of reasons why a can’t won’t use its box. Being old and sick is not a good combination.

I would say to get the cat to a vet immediately. I had the same problem, and I waited figuring it would stop. Long story short, the cat was having a HORRIBLE time one night, passing out, and crying and falling over. Took him to the vet (needless to say it’s around midnight, and let me tell you about the vet bill when you bring in a cat at that hour!) and the vet said he was blocked (as an aside, she said it was mainly because he has a tiny penis, something I now tease him about). She said he would not have made it through the night if she hadn’t unblocked him. He’s fine now, and on a special diet for the rest of his life. This is apparently VERY common (there was another cat in the office that night with the same problem who did not make it) especially in male cats.

I agree, the first thing I would do is take the cat to a vet.

My cat had a horrible urinary tract infection about three years ago and got blocked. He didn’t try to go outside his box, though. He just sat in it, strained, and yowled in pain. Poor baby!

Could the cat be having a hard time physically getting into the box? I have a jumbo-size box for my kitty because he’s big and likes to kick litter all over the place. Maybe he’s having trouble getting in and out?

I’d definitely ask the vet.
