URL ending in ".asr"

i recently got a virus from someones AIM profile and i noticed all the viruses end in “.asr”

what does that mean? i couldnt find it on google.

Are you sure it is .asr? I’ve heared about .asp scripts, but its the first time I see .asr.

Just checked a few ‘file extensions’ list on the net, and here’s what I can find listed for .asr:

MS Automap Route
Photoshop Scratch Area

There’s also some vague reference to it being in a list of dreamweaver support extensions - that I don’t understand.

So, it’s not a very common extension to get posted up on the web, but it could be associated with two programs that people might have on their computers… programs that might well have virus exploits.

Always be careful what link you click on.

ah thank you. it wasnt difficult to remove though i just system restored to a day before it happened. it kept popping up internet crap and it would pop up away messages with more links to the virus.

In a URL, it’s probably an ActionScript file, the scripting language used with Macromedia Flash.

Oh, and the Dreamweaver environment supports development of .asr files, which is what somebody above was referring to.

Hehe, goes to show you that those lists always miss a few obvious things. Also that several obscure three-letter combinations have more than two possible meanings. :]
