Captain Amazing: I was under the impression throughout high school that Muslim is the singular usage, while Moslem is plural…
Poppycock. There are moderate and liberal Muslems, just as there are moderate/liberal/conservative Jews and Christians and what-have-you. Look at Turkey for an example of an Islamic government that doesn’t use a Taliban-style philosophy of “hating modernity/America/technology/white people/whatever”.
The only people who believe Islam (as a whole) is opposed to modernization and Western society are ignorant morons who open their mouths without engaging their brains.
See?
Exactement. And for that matter, not all Arabs are Muslims, and not all Muslims are Arabs. And as rjung points out, there is just as much diversity of economic, political and social opinion in predominantly Muslim countries as there is in predominantly Jewish and Christian countries.
The OP did not mention Arab-Americans, only Moslems.
Pjen has stated a lot of problems but no solutions.
Do you have any?
Tell us how you would bring about peace in the world, and it had better not be along the lines of everyone must follow (your favorite deity here with this set of rules) ;j
True, your OP mentioned only Muslims, not Arab-Americans, but the cites you provide to back up your assertions in the OP came from the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) and refer to alleged acts of discrimination against Arab-Americans and Arabs living in the United States. These groups are not synonymous with Muslim-Americans and Muslims living in the United States.
So in retrospect it isn’t clear from the OP which group, Arabs or Muslims, you wanted to discuss…
Thank you, Jerevan Somerville, for clarifying my point.
