It was more than rivalry with Russia, it was about trying to stop Putin from think he could rebuild the Soviet Union. You’re interpretation is fairly limited I would say.
In terms of responsibility, it doesn’t matter why the US is giving aid to Ukraine. It’s the right thing to do, and it also serves US strategic interests. Sometimes those align.
I have said that more than once in this thread
I think yours is limited, the US brought Russia down via proxy. China saw that happen.
Helping the Ukraine was first and foremost the right thing to do for anyone that remembers Chamberlain and Hitler. Putin had some domestic worries and went on a horrible adventure to distract the Russian. He thought it would be easy to take another chunk of the Ukraine and set up a puppet government for the rest of it.
Thankfully Europe and the US said no, not again.
I have no idea what your trying to imply with “China saw that happen”.
The Russian nationalist idea that Ukraine and Russia are the same country is centuries old, as well as the Ukrainian nationalist idea that they are not. Russia retaking Ukraine may have emboldened China to retake its own breakaway province, Taiwan
Right, so one more good result in helping the Ukraine is to discourage such actions by China.
The whole helping a country being attacked for bullshit reasons was good also. Kind like if Russia and China supported Iraq when we went in after 9/11.
I am not against the NATO assistance to Ukraine
Is there an actual debatable proposition here, or just an opinion that we may politely regard from a neutral distance?
I think one of the main goals was to show China, without actually showing China
Obviously Russia had no shot. China haunts the dreams of every US warplanner
You can critique me, if you want.
One of whose goals? The USA? Are you implying (since you have yet to provide any credible sources) that the US somehow 5D chessed Putin into attacking Ukraine to Show CHINA that it would get a smackdown?
… Wow. I find this statement preposterous. While Russia failed, the fighting was nearly in Kyiv before being pushed back. The number of Ukrainian dead isn’t fully known, ESPECIALLY with all the civilian losses in the Russian controlled areas, and your argument belittles every single death.
Since you by your own admission find it difficult to find cites and expect unthinking acceptance of your POV
I think that I’m personally done with this thread. Someone @ me if needed.
I have already asked everything that I needed to know
I meant, from this last guy. Who announced his departure like he was invited. Good bye, Mr. Lines
Biden is pretty well one of the most vouched-for human beings in the country. I can go through all of that if you want. By all accounts, he’s a bleeding heart softy and not a cynical, “American hegemony for American profit” nationalist.
This isn’t to say that the entire government is just as pristine but, to the extent that you can put the US response on one person, I think the good odds are that Biden’s goal is to give Ukraine what they want - if they want to fight then help them fight and if they want to appease then to let them appease - not set off a nuclear war, and try to keep the planet on the course of respecting borders and using diplomacy and mutual respect/benefit as the basis for making borders disappear.
Of course they want to fight though. Like, of course
Russian paratroops land in Kievs airport and armored columns advance on 3 fronts. Yeah, its a fight
“Let’s go burn down the observatory so this never happens again!”
What does this mean? If you’re going to post uncited gibberish, you’re going to be asked to stop posting.
It looks like your quoting something or someone, but no indication of what.
Modnote: Do better please or stop.
This also, who are you talking to? It comes across like either taunting or playing to an audience.
