I was thinking about major US cities with no TV set there. Here’s a list I came up with. Please add (or subtract) from it.
Pittsburgh
Memphis
Indianapolis
San Antonio
Houston
New Orleans
Birmingham
St. Louis
Kansas City (MO)
San Diego

Kansas City (MO)
San Diego
Pittsburgh–Mr. Belvedere
Indianapolis–One Day at a Time
Houston–Houston Knights (late 80s)
New Orleans–Frank’s Place (same era)
San Diego–Simon and Simon
I don’t think Salt Lake City has hosted any sitcoms or dramas (although “Donny and Marie” did air from Utah for a season).
:smack: Thanks! I loved Mr. Belvedere! Didn’t watch *Houston Knights *or Frank’s Place. Too young for others.
Memphis had the TV series Memphis Beat set there as well as the guilty pleasure Hellcats. New Orleans also had the TV adaptation of* The Big Easy*.
Birmingham -Any Day Now
And how could you forget CSI:San Antonio? I guess because it was never made.
Birmingham: Any Day Now
St. Louis: The John Larroquette Show
Kansas City: Apple Pie
Just look in this list:

Big Love was set in a suburb of Salt Lake City.
I had to think a minute about what you meant—my first instinct was, “Hey, don’t lots of people in those cities have TV sets?”
Then I thought, “If professional sports (e.g. ballgames) count, there are plenty of broadcasts that are set in most of those cities.”
It took a little thinking to decipher the OP.
Sorry gang! I also was limiting it to scripted shows.
First one I thought of, with Bonnie Franklin dying yesterday and all.
Thanks Wendell! The link had me :smack: constantly.
Another show set in Pittsburgh was Queer As Folk on Showtime.
New Orleans:
New Orleans also has Treme.
How about San Jose? Don’t see that in the Wiki-list. Any TV shows set there?
No one’s come up with a San Antonio show. That would make it the largest city with no show, followed by San Jose, if that has none.
Just take that list with a grain of salt. On a quick glance, a few entries were questionable. For example, I’m pretty sure that TJ Hooker was not set in Miami.
Fargo, ND
(Wow…they have cities in North Dakota? I kinda assumed there were just spots where the missile silos were slightly more thick on the ground. )
According to The Complete Directory of Prime Time Network and Cable TV Show for San Antonio there is:
The Brothers Garcia (2000-2004 on Nickelodeon, 2004-2005 on CBS Saturday mornings).
Found three previous threads on this topic here on SD and all determined that San Jose was the largest city without a show set in it. But that might be coming to an end. HBO has a new comedy series coming called Silicon Valley. Now, “Silicon Valley” is more than San Jose but San Jose is part of Silicon Valley. So I guess it depends on how loose we want to be.
For New Orleans, don’t forget “Chief Wiggum, P.I.”
(Oh, I’m sorry. You were only asking about real TV shows.)
