US cities with no TV set there

Alice was set in Phoenix.

So is Jacksonville, Florida the largest city without a tv show? I don’t see any reference to Charlotte, N.C. either.

Define “major US city”

Does Juneau, Aalaska count? True, it only has a tiny population, but it does have a huge area. And it’s the capital, whyich nhas to count for something.

Any TV shows set in Juneau?

Atlanta? Maybe there was something but I can’t recall.

Actually, I think a lot of major southern cities are under-represented, even apart from the fact that new York and LA seem to host all the television series because, well, that’s where they’re filmed. I it’s not just a personal misperception, then it’s likely due to the fact that Southern cities tend tohave a more distinct culture, or at least some of them. Others have a very distinct physical environment.

“Designing Women”

Juneau counts as “major”.

Just yesterday, saw the Simpsons episode “The Old Man and the Key” (Abe wants to start driving again to impress a woman who’s recently moved into the retirement home), which includes a revue about past-their-prime entertainers, including (more or less) the lyric:

We’ve got the stars you thought were dead
Like Bonnie Franklin and Adrian Zmed

“Franklin” does not speak, nor did the actress lend her voice to the episode. I’m not sure if it was coincidental or like other episodes that got jammed into the schedule because a featured voice actor had recently died, as happened for Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor.

Of all people, why are you asking this question? Seems like something you should already know

Um…Providence was set in Providence. Brotherhood was too.

There aren’t any major cities in New Hampshire, but the only show ever set in NH (The Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire), or at least as far as I know it’s the only one, wasn’t even set in a real town. Poland’s a real town in Maine, like Derry is a real town in New Hampshire.

Earl-that username was a riff on my initials. BTW-well played.

“The Walking Dead” season 1 partially took place in Atlanta, and continues to take place in the immediate area.

TJ Hooker was set in no city at all; the city was obviously LA but was never referred to as such, it was always called “LC.”

True, but Queer as Folk has some pretty glaring errors. For example the whole first season thing about Justin being jailbait since he was only 17 (age of consent in PA is only 16) or the 5th season plot about the omnibus anti-gay rights initiative (not only does PA not have ballot initiatives, & some of the protections Prop 14 was repealing were things PA never had in the first place). Giving Pittsburgh a gay village the size of Toronto’s pales in comparison.

Mork & Mindy

I think just about every Tyler Perry sitcom was set in Atlanta. I understand if you’ve never seen any of them.

Pretty sure Arlen was supposed to be in the Dallas-FW area, what with all the Cowboys and Rangers references and whatnot.

Well, one episode of Davy Crockett was set at the Alamo. Strangely, it wasn’t the last one.

Boulder, CO, actually, home of the University of Colorado and about 25 miles outside of Denver.

Using the broader definition of “US cities”, this was badly inflicted upon San Juan, PR, in The Flying Nun.

Probably shouldn’t count but when they started making new Perry Mason TV movies he had relocated to Denver.
