Anyone have any experience with these companies? The BBB says they’re flooded with complaints, but I’m interested in hearing if there are any positive experiences out there. We have an older truck and were thinking about buying the coverage, but my research shows it might not be such a hot idea. Anyone have anything good to say about these outfits?
USfidelis is one thing. Other auto repair warranty companies is another.
I’ll put this as gently as possible: don’t even consider USfidelis. Even if you can find someone to say something good about them, it still stands that there are lots of people who are extremely dissatisfied, and the likelihood is high that you would join their ranks if you were foolish enough to deal with the company.
As for other companies, some are pretty good, some are pretty awful. Do a lot of research. Google on XYZ Company complaints or XYZ Company scam. Ask some auto repair shops which companies they recommend, or caution to avoid (repair shops have a perspective on which companies go to extremes to mimimize what they actually pay for). Salesmen for these warranties are notorious for exaggerating the coverage, so do not believe what you hear. Any contract you’re offered should be evaluated down to the fine print by someone who really knows about auto repair - before you sign, of course.
Don’t be surprised if you can’t find a good company that doesn’t offer anything for an older vehicle. They can read the writing on the wall, and aren’t anxious to set themselves up for paying out a lot on something that’s likely to develop problems.
They want about $3K for three year’s coverage. I guess there’s a nest of these bastids in the St. Louis area, and the BBB didn’t have anything good to say about them. I think we’ll just go along as we always have, and fix stuff as it comes at us. My husband has an uncanny abiity to pick great used cars and is a freak about oil changes and other maintenance. We squeeze every last drop of life out of 'em because he’s so good about regular upkeep. I guess that’s the best warranty around.
Barring a major engine failure, you’d be hard-pressed to spend that much on repairs over three years, much less covered repairs. While the odds aren’t zero you’d have problems that big, they are low, and the smart bet is to keep the money for repairs rather than use it to buy a warranty.
USFidelis is headquartered a few miles from here in a dead outlet mall.
The company’s sole owner is building a $10 million 15,000 square foot house about a mile from me. To replace the $2 million house he built 3 years ago which is now up for sale.
I’m not sure, but I think they’re taking in a *bit *more in premiums than they are paying out in claims.
They also have a lot of labor complaints for not paying their employees.
Bastids.
Well, we made our decision to go with the tried and true husband-goes-to-the-shop-to-talk-the-price-down tactic. It works 80% of the time. Also, we found an interesting website: www.repairpal.com. You can find the prices for repairs in a given area. Haven’t tried it yet, but it could be useful.
