Last good collison story I heard was of a USN Tommahawk shoter out of Hampton Roads. She was skippered by CAPT Ming (‘The Merciless,’ the son of the other CAPT Ming of Vietnam days).
In any case she was ordered out past the sea bouy to caibrate some sort of radar mounted on some sort of bouy. Orders were to make 1NM circles around the bouy until told not to. So round and round she goes.
About that time the container ship Saudi Riyadh full of Goshknowswhat leaves the roads at a leasurly clip. The navy ship pulls up right under her bows. Nobody was hurt, but the skipper was packing his thing before he got her back to the dock.
The Navy opted to bring one out of storage rather than repair the damged one.
