US pulls out of Paris Climate Change Treaty - thoughts?

And yet, the USA is still the second biggest polluter in the World.

Commitment to clean air my arse.

Reuters article.

This statement shows a complete lack of understanding of science and the issues. Please, enlighten us on the science that shows temperatures will swing back cold in a few hundred years despite the continued rise in CO[sub]2[/sub].

Here you go. Weather patterns going back to 2500 BC.

There’s nothing unusual about major shifts in temperature.

Stick around a few centuries and another mini ice age will occur.

Can you perhaps plot that against global CO[sub]2[/sub] levels? Maybe compare global temperatures against CO[sub]2[/sub] levels? What you are doing is not science. It’s distraction and cherry picking.

And you’ll get better information from actual scientists, not a lawyer who decided he was a climatologist to further his bible-based anti-AGW views.

The “climatologist” you’re citing is trained in insurance law and uses the Bible to predict the weather:

“I do believe in a period of extreme global warming. That will be in the tribulation period. That’s when the real global warming will come in,” he said. “Those of us who are believers, we’re looking forward to it.”

Can you explain why you believe him, and not actual scientists?

The mini ice age during the middle ages is well documented. I linked to the ice Festivals they had annually on the River Thames.

I know nothing about the other link. It’s the first one that pops up searching for weather pattern history.

If that guy has been discredited then I apologise.

That still doesn’t change history. It’s widely known that there are historical climate changes. Unfortunately we didn’t have computer databases to accurately record them. We have to rely on verbal history and some written history that has survived through time.

Climate denial is now linked to Donald Trump. When Trump’s popularity collapses, climate denial will drop with him.

Yes. Historical climate changes that happen to correlate perfectly with CO2 emissions. If a volcano spews out CO2 and changes the climate there is nothing that we can do about it, and since the volcano eventually stops spewing out CO2, then the problem eventually corrects. If we are the ones spewing out CO2, then there IS something that we can do about it, and unless we do something about that then the problem DOESN’T correct.

Good grief, learn some science before you spout off about what’s going to happen to temperatures in 200 years. You think our entire knowledge of temperatures throughout the history of the earth comes from verbal and written history? I know Jurassic Park portrayed those 'raptors as being pretty smart, but believe me. They didn’t record temperatures in their diaries.

I think some interests want to open up the Arctic for resource extraction and new shipping lanes, so more warming is in their interest. I’m skeptical that capitalism can solve problems of this magnitude and time scale, especially given its inherent short term outlook. I think humanity will try to cope with GW by way of geo-engineering, genetic engineering of crops, and sea walls. I’ve read articles over the years saying this or that effect is already irreversible, even if humanity de-industrialized tomorrow, so I wasn’t too optimistic about a deal that was supposedly rather toothless.

The Northwest Passage will be tremendously embiggened! And we’ll be able to go skinny-dipping off the decks of the oil tankers as we pass through!

The Paris Agreement was a massive wankfest. We are far better off out of it.
