US Senate wants us all to DIE!

Youll love this then, from the 9/11 Commission:

*At Monday’s presentation, commission member Richard Ben-Veniste said Iraq is on track to succeed Afghanistan as a terrorist training ground. “How much this trend has been fueled by the highly publicized reports of brutalization, humiliation and desecration cannot be measured accurately,” he said.

“But the flames of extremism undoubtedly burn more brightly when we are the ones who deliver the gasoline,” Ben-Veniste said.*

We have net the enemy, and he is us.

The white house has Padilla on that list. The whole “dirty bomb” scenario has been dropped, and they’re not even holding him as as enemy combatant anymore.

The artielc says PLENTY.

To avoid a Supreme Court showdown, the Bush administration sought to have onetime ‘dirty bomb’ suspect José Padilla tried in Miami federal court on lesser charges, not held as an `enemy combatant.’ … By its action, the administration sought to avoid a U.S. Supreme Court showdown over the reach of broad presidential powers in the war on terror.

I would think, if they were so sure of the rightness of it, they would welcome a Supreme Court hearing, as vindication of their position. Bring it on! The Court will prove we are right and legal! Maybe they are afraid they would lose. So, they drag him instead into a civilian court and charge him with “lesser charges”. Pathetic and dishonest.

Course, their record isn’t so hot in civilian courts either. That Florida prof. who got busted on a terrorism-conspiracy was acquitted of the major charges this month. Having failed to convict, now they’ll choose between a retrial, and deporting him.

Thank you, tomndebb, that was exactly the point I would’ve made (not in an attempt to be argumentative, but because my response was – and this thread is – specifically concerning the PA).

With this administration, I think they’d crow from the rooftops if they could even draw a tenuous connection between the passage of the PATRIOT ACT and Al-Zarkawi catching a cold.
