USA vs England - May 28

From the squad, the following England team:

James, Campbell, *Brown[/]i, Neville G, Cole A, Beckham, Cole J, Wright-Phillips, Hargreaves, Owen, Defoe/Johnson

…would be not far off full strength (Gerrard, Ferdinand, Rooney and Lampard being ideally preferred to the italicised above). Not that these post-season friendlies matter a hoot, really.

Where and when will it be broadcast in the U.S.?

It’ll be on ESPN or ESPN2 live (I programmed the DVR yesterday just in case), maybe about 11-12 your time. Check local listings for details, yada yada.

Okay, more specifically:

Live on ESPN and Telemundo on Saturday, May 28 at:

3 pm Eastern
2 pm Central (game is played in Chicago)
1 pm Mountain
Noon Pacific

Ah, crap. Eddie Johnson is out! :frowning: At least John O’Brien is back. And
McBride and Landon could create some problems.

Should be a great game!

Prediction: 3-2 States, on a late header by McBride.

[ducks, runs away]

Dream on, mate.

When I referred to JOB in that early post that is John OBrien. Doesn’t look good for him to play. Looking more and more like we’ll be fielding a B side as well.

Mwahahahaha!

Per [url"http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/4582373.stm"]BBC News, this is the England starting eleven:

James, G Johnson, Brown, Campbell, A Cole, J Cole, Jenas, Carrick, Richardson, Crouch, A Johnson.

That’s certainly not the best team that England can field, but it’s not a bad side. It will be interesting to see how they perform. At this point I’d predict England 3-1.

The article also mentions that both Beckham and Owen are joining up with the team in New Jersey. Sol Campbell will be the captain in Chicago.

:smack: nice coding.

I have a corporate box for this match though I have zero interest in the game. Many a drink will probably help but otherwise I couldn’t give a toss.

Andy Johnson, at best, will be a middling Premiership player.

For the British Dopers, there is a preview of the game at 2.55 on BBC1, the match is on Sky Sports 1 at 7.30 (kick-off 8.05) then BBC1 are showing highlights at 11.40.

Here are a couple of articles out on the game:

American (Associated Press)

English (Soccernet)

Only saw the second half, didn’t seem like a very exciting game but at least the result was right

No, the result was off by one. It’s sad when you want the bad guys to score an extra goal to get your prediction correct, innit? I thought the match had it’s moments, we obviously helped make Richardson look pretty good. Also now I’m starting to understand the nickname “Calamity James”.

Many hairs have been turned grey atop the heads of people watching David James coming for a cross. He isn’t as bad as he used to be but I would still put Robinson in ahead of him everytime, but then I may be biased as a Spurs fan.

So who won?

England bt USA 2-1.

I’m surprised SGE didn’t use Bobby Green as it was only a friendly.

This would be the same Andy Johnson who was the 2nd best scorer in the Premiership whilst playing for a side that got relegated? You better tell all the clubs that are trying to buy him that they’re wasting their time.
