I have a new car stereo which supports USB. (It’s a cheap Chinese “XOVision” model XOD1740BT)
It seems to work great so far with my 256MB thumb drive, but I’d really like to have my entire library in my car, which is almost 20 gigs.
It does NOT work with my Blackberry 8800 (2 gig micro SD card), which registers on my laptop as a mass storage device.
I’m wondering what the difference is between the two?
Can I buy a 2.5" HD USB enclosure and have any hope that it will work?
Also, and I assume it’s due to the Chinese firmware, but filenames on the car stereo are truncated to 8 characters like DOS (“GUNSNR~1”), which sucks, but I’m willing to deal with. I just wanted to throw it out there in case it’s related somehow.
Finally, this model advertises SD card capability, but I can’t find the slot. The instruction manual seems to have been translated from Chinese by a Chinese computer. Weird because the top review at Walmart (I bought mine elsewhere cheaper, but it’s the exact same model number on the box) mentions that the SD works.
When I hook my bb 8820 up to my laptop it ask me permission for the laptop to take control of the mass storage device. That is, it gives the laptop read/write access. It appears that your headuinit is not being recoginized bu you bb. Perhaps there is a setting on your bb that will automatically give control to a secondary device, but this would mean that you could not listen to your music with headphones without manually swiching back.
Try going to the Options menu on your bb and pick Media Card. Then change the Response When Connected option from Prompt to Yes. If that dosen’t work you can try playing with the other settings. Also a battery pull/reset on your bb may be needed to affect the change. Good Luck.
