Need input on USB to ISA/SATA adapters that are reliable. I ask because I’ve seen too many negative comments on this type of device. I do not necessarily need the power connector.
Unreliable?
What kind of adapter are you talking about?
An external drive case kit or a wiring harness that lets a 2.5 SATA run on an internal 3.5 desktop interface?
Do you mean IDE/SATA (IDE is also called PATA by some)? Or do you mean this technology which has not been standard for over 10 years, and is almost impossible to find things for these days?
They should all have power, either through AC adapter or a second USB. If you find one without, that seems suspicious. Also, are you looking for an enclosure? Or just one that plugs into the back of a bare drive? There’s lots of brands, even if you currently only have USB I personally would get one that has either eSATA, IEEE 1394, or USB 3.0, as they don’t really cost much more.
Should I have added that it would be for computer hard drives? I can handle the power connection on my own.
Apparently, I have to re-post this.
Need recommendation on reliable USB 2.0 to ISA-PATA/SATA, 3.5 and 2.5 adapters for hard drives. I ask because I’ve seen too many negative comments on this type of device. I do not necessarily need the power connector, as I can provide the power on my own. I’ve seen models with and without it. Prefer input by those who have actually used one.
?
maybe? i have a the HD from an old external that i hope the usb only failed on. i long ago trashed the housing and kept the hard drive, now i am curious if the data was salvaged on it. i have no idea how to even check, so it was suggested i buy that product above.
You have over 1200 feedback results to look at in ome cases, hundreds in others. The bottom line is that little adapter items like this are almost always made fairly cheaply. They will usually work for a very long time or die quickly. It’s the nature of inexpensive electronics. There is no good-better-best in these things given the relatively tiny market for them. Most live, some die.
Even if some larger companies like Rocketfish market them it’s the same cheap electronics inside from the one or two places making them.
