Useless Facts

Stewardesses is the longest word in the English language that is typed by the left hand.

A pigs orgasm lasts for approx. 30 mins

Every time you lick a stamp you consume 1/10th of a calorie

A Jiffy is a unit of time for 1/100 of a second

I’d be interested in finding out how YOU found out about how long a porcine orgasm lasts…personal experience there chowder?? :stuck_out_tongue:

And ‘Jiffy’ is bullshit. Whenever anybody tells me they’ll be back in a jiffy, it’s **always **longer than 1/100 of a second. More like ten minutes or one hour really.

Personal experience? I say old chap, that’s a bit personal isn’t it…but the answer is no.

I read it on some site or other and if it’s true I wanna come back as a pig :stuck_out_tongue:

These may be correct, but I believe they come from a much longer list of “facts” that are quite wrong. Check Snopes.

I’ve seen some programming that used jiffies to coordinate time. Don’t recall if it was Linux or U-Boot.

Actually, it seems that it is. According to several cites, such as this, there are three words tied for the longest at 14 letters each: AFTERCATARACTS, TESSERADECADES and TETRASTEARATES. That’s two more letters than STEWARDESSES. Now, I’ll grant you these aren’t common words by any stretch, but as far as I can tell they are real words. For example, aftercataracts:

Your foot is roughly as long as the space between your inner elbow and inner wrist.

(Imagines a buncha Dopers taking their shoes off at their desks to check it out.)
Told ya!

Thirty minutes sounds nice, but remember, all your partners will smell like pig shit. Literally and that’s not a pleasant smell at all.

The largest vat of Jell-o ever prepared was watermelon flavored.

The circumfrence of your wrist is roughly the same as the distance from your wrist to the tip of your outstretched middle finger.

Today is also National Pie Day!

Stop, I’m getting all hot and bothered.

Despite petitions to change it to Violetear, the Colibri (hummingbird) continues to be called the Violet-ear (645 hits vs 35,600 hits).
