A few months ago I bought one of the Lego Creator Kits for the Titanic: LEGO® Titanic 10294 | LEGO® Icons | Buy. I’ve been fascinated with that ship since I was a little kid so as soon as I saw the kit I knew I had to build it! I ordered it early fortunately because mine came in shortly after Christmas and now I hear they’re all but impossible to find.
Life got in the way of starting it right away, but a few weeks ago I started on the first box in the kit which contains the bow section. I finished the bow section last night and while it’s nice and solid it’s still Lego so some of the parts pop off easily. But more importantly, I thought the insides of the ship looked really neat while I was building it and now that it has the “skin” on I can’t show people how it was built. Those skin sections especially went on in large units, but when I try to pull it off to look inside they break apart. Of course I can take out the individual parts, reassemble, and put back together so it’s as tight as it was before but I’d prefer these large sections to stay together.
Which brings me to the Lego movie and Kragle (Krazy Glue) - I don’t want to glue every piece together on this model because the fact it’s Lego is a big part of its charm, but I think I would like to glue together some of the larger modules I built so that I can remove those parts as whole units for easy access to the inside without worrying about a lot of tiny pieces popping off. Is that a sin in the Lego community? I don’t intend to sell it, but want to just make sure I’m not going to commit some cardinal offense that will only be clear after I lock my first pieces in place.
When I purchased the Lego Kit I also purchased a lighting kit. I plan to install the lights in the bow section this weekend which involves some deconstruction to make room for the lights. That way I’ll know for sure what parts are safe for glue.
As long as we’re talking about Lego’s, have any of you ever built any of the Lego Creator kits? Which ones are your favorites?
My nephew is the one who got me started on these when he built some of the Star Wars models. I think those are pretty neat especially with the lighting kits. Otherwise, they’re just a little too “gray” - it’s nice on his models to take off some of the outside to see the work that he put into building it.
