USPS Postage Rates

One used to hear of the USPS asking Congress to approve the cost of postage. Naturally, they’d ask for more and bargain down to some compromised price. Does the USPS have to answer to anyone nowadays? With stamps due to go up again, it seems like I never hear mention of the USPS asking for Congressional approval. What’s the SD on stamp price increases?

The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 allows the Postal Service to raise rates based on inflation with 45 days notice. USPS has said that they plan to raise rates annually each May and to give 90 days notice.
